Rural Health Transformation Plan
TIPQC has received the Maternal and Infant Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) grant to support rural hospitals and counties ultimately achieving “Better Care, Closer to Home.” Through this grant from Tennessee Department of Health, TIPQC will address critical healthcare gaps facing Tennessee mothers and infants that contribute to high rates of mortality and morbidity in the state. Through increased Maternal and Infant Quality Improvement (QI) Initiatives, TIPQC will utilize collaborative and hospital-specific, evidence-based, and data-drive QI initiatives to target healthcare gaps and improve outcomes for mothers and their infants.
1) Increase rural hospitals participating in TIPQC QI initiatives,
2) Increase, support, and provide local hospital workforce with training in QI,
3) Develop durable state and hospital data dashboards utilized for improvement,
4) Develop sustainable QI data collection and analysis tools for all QI projects,
5) Provide training to expand rural community workers, including doula and lactation training,
6) Support patient & family integration into local QI teams,
7) Increase county and community engagement with local and state improvement efforts.
Eligible Counties
Does not include: Shelby, Madison, Davidson, Hamilton, Knox, and Sullivan Counties.
TIPQC’s Rural Health Transformation Plan Programs
Improving outcomes for rural moms and babies in Tennessee will take a multidisciplinary approach. TIPQC plans to work with rural hospitals, doulas, lactation consultants, and more in order to make an impactful and meaningful difference.
TIPQC QI Scholars: Rural Hospital QI Grants
By awarding yearly grants to rural hospitals, TIPQC will support eligible hospitals in quality improvement work with workforce development and IT solutions, specialized training, local metrics, and individualized coaching.
Participating hospitals will:
- Receive yearly grant to appoint or hire a local QI Scholar to lead quality improvement work at their facility
- Participate in TIPQC QI Project(s)
- Attend specialized training and coaching, such as QI Fundamentals, Advanced QI, 6 Week QI Bootcamp, Presentation Skills, and more!
- Receive IT Support to integrate best practices into workflows
- Engage patients, families, and the community in improving care
- Improve outcomes for moms and babies using evidence based solutions.
Doula Training
TIPQC will offer Doula scholarships for either training, mentoring, or certification.
Must be planning to practice in a rural county. More details coming soon!
Lactation Training
TIPQC will offer lactation training again through Lactation Education Resources (LER) for professionals who want to work in a rural county or in a rural hospital. Scholarships will be available for Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
