Post-Birth women are at risk for potential life-threatening medical complications that can occur after hospital discharge. These post-birth warning signs, or urgent maternal warning signs, could indicate a life threatening condition during pregnancy and postpartum.

New Legislation
Effective July 1st, 2025, all Tennessee hospitals and birth centers must provide postpartum mothers with information related to post-birth warning signs. TIPQC remains committed to educating patients, providers, nurses and community workers on these urgent maternal warning signs, and helping Tennessee hospitals comply with new legislation.
During the 2025 legislative session a new law was passed related to maternal care in Tennessee.
