Count the Kicks

Fetal movement and a healthy mom and baby are very strongly linked. The risk of severe maternal morbidity (SMM) is more than four times higher among stillbirth deliveries compared to live births. Count the Kicks is an evidence-based program that uses the latest research to help achieve to help decrease the still birth rate and decrease SMM among expectant mothers. The program teaches pregnant women how to monitor fetal movement during the third trimester of pregnancy by doing kick counts daily and has now launched in over 30 states in the U.S.

I really appreciate having the QR code on my badge so that I can guide patients through the process of getting the app on their phone and enrolling quickly. Many of my patients are at an increased risk of stillbirth and are motivated to monitor their babies regularly at home. They seem to really enjoy this time of early bonding with their little ones, and it gives both of us peace of mind knowing that the app tracks objective information about their babies’ wellbeing available to everyone on the healthcare team. I love that our OB ED team can access this information 24/7 if the patient comes in to be evaluated for decreased fetal movement, or any other concern.”

TIPQC works with Count the Kicks towards the shared goal of decreasing stillbirths across Tennessee and the nation.
