OUD/OEN Video Series
Tamela Milan-Alexander describes the personal struggle as well as her triumph over addiction, public assistance and poverty. Through her journey of recovery from opioid addiction, regaining custody of her six children, and caring for her Opioid Exposed Newborn, she is able to share what was supportive to her recovery. Caring for the patient with opioid use disorder or the opioid exposed newborn takes compassion. In this module, you will learn about motivational interviewing and destigmatizing addiction in addressing a patient with opioid use disorder with a goal of creating an environment of non-judgmental care.
Destigmatizing Addiction Video: This presentation discusses stigma and its deleterious effects on individual patient care and society. It calls attention to the language that we use and how word choice impacts patient care. We are called to deliver care that keeps patients engaged rather than discouraging treatment.

Tennessee is in an opioid epidemic which mirrors much of the national epidemic. Leading expert, Dr. Stephen Patrick, discusses the history and current trends in Tennessee regarding OUD and OEN.
